Common Questions We're Asked

Here you will find questions that customers ask us from time to time.
If you have a question and the answer is not here, please feel free to call or email us.
See our other FAQ topics below.

Do you return your phone calls,
texts, tweets or e-mails promptly?

Yes, we respond as quickly as possible. When leaving us a message please indicate the best method and time to respond and we will work around your schedule.

How far in advance should
I book L&A SoundCrew?

As with all event planning, the sooner the better. We encourage you to reserve your date early. A year in advance is often required for dates that are more popular. Saturday evenings fill up especially fast. The first person to put down a deposit on an event will get the date guaranteed in writing. Book early to get what you want.

Do you sub-contract your work out?
NO! We greatly frown upon this practice. You selected and paid for L&A SoundCrew – that is who will be there.

Do you take requests?
Absolutely! We play the music that you and your guests want to hear. You can even text or tweet the DJ with your request. Plus - we WON'T play the music you DON'T want to hear (Click here to see our offensive lyrics policy). If a guest requests a song you have asked NOT be played or may be inappropriate, we politely inform them and lead them to another song more appropriate for your event.

How is L&A SoundCrew
better than a band?

There are many reasons! The music will never stop because we don't take breaks between sets. We can play a huge variety of music (just check out our Play List). All of the music sounds just like you hear it on the radio. We can play a wider range of requests, not just those that the band knows or likes to play.

Do you use
professional equipment?

All of our DJ equipment is professional. We have a variety of equipment that is interchangeable so that we can adapt to any size location or event.

How will the DJs
dress for my event?

We will dress anyway you like from casual to formal. We always dress to match the needs of the event. Our Emcee/DJ will dress in your choice of casual (slacks and a polo shirt), casual formal wear (i.e. suit coat and tie or vest and tie) unless you requested that the DJ/Emcee needs to be in formal attire. The Sound & Lighting Tech will dress in a dark company polo shirt to blend in with the background. Our goal is not to detract from the event by overshadowing the participants with flashy clothes. It is YOUR  event - the focus should be on YOU!

Will you show up early
to set up for my event?

We always arrive at least one to three hours early for every event depending on the equipment mix required. In many cases, we arrive even earlier   to make sure everything is ready to go on time. Once at your event location, we coordinate with photographers, videographers, caterers and  event supervisors to make sure your event runs smoothly.

Who will control the
volume at my event?

You will. We don't want to hurt anyone's hearing or offend anyone. Simply tell us if the volume is either too loud or too soft and we will immediately adjust our sound system.

How many times will you
announce the name of your
company during our event?

Zero. None. Nada. Our presence at your event is sufficient. If someone asks, we will provide him or her with a card and ask him or her to call us on a date when we are not performing. If you choose to recognize us in your event program or announcements, that is fine. However, we will not bring up our name unless requested.

Don't you put up a large
L&A SoundCrew sign?

No. we do not even put up a small one. We believe that signage is inappropriate. Our business cards and request forms are all that is visible on our station. Unless requested by you, or other arrangements made, there is nothing that detracts from your event.

Do you require a retainer fee
and a signed contract?

Yes. We require a non-refundable retainer fee of 50% of the full package price (min $300.00 on smaller packages). We will send you a contract and expect you to return it with your signature and retainer fee within two weeks. Your date is not officially secure until your retainer fee and contract is in our hands. However, we will not book another event that is in conflict with yours while your contract is outstanding. If we do not receive your retainer fee and signed contract by the due date listed on your contract, we reserve to rebook the date without notice.

Is my retainer fee refundable?
No. Your retainer fee is non-refundable to protect us from lost bookings due to us scheduling your event. However you may use that retainer towards a rescheduled event (if we have the date open) for up to one year from the original date.

When is the balance due
for my event

Unless other payment arrangements have been made, we ask that the balance due be paid 30 days prior to the event.
