What about offensive lyrics?

Songs from the beginning of time have been filled with blatant and or suggestive lyrics. Inevitably someone will be offended by the contents of a song. Even when the song contains no sexual suggestion, if it is sang suggestively, or contains inappropriate references or slang; it could offend or be inappropriate for a particular event. Never has this statement been truer than with today’s music. We do our best to screen music as it comes out and note the songs that are questionable. Even with headphones, lyrics can still sometimes  be difficult to translate.

It is important that we collaborate with you, our paying client, to set the standards for what music is appropriate to play at your event. L&A SoundCrew does not want to offend anyone by playing music that is inappropriate. We rely on our experience and common sense to determine what is and isn’t appropriate given the event and those present, plus the guidelines provided by our clients. But we are not infallible. Unless requested, L&A SoundCrew will make every effort to only play radio edits of potentially offensive songs. But at times even the radio edits push boundaries. The offensive words may be removed but the overall suggestion and innuendo still remain. We try not to play music that we feel is blatantly offensive.

All of our event contracts include a ‘No Play’ list that should contain specific songs or styles that you do not want played. It is our goal to create a fun, party atmosphere without offending anyone. This can only be done through good communication with you our clients. So, please take the time to list any ‘No Play’ items if this issue is a concern.

Along with questionable songs, there is the issue of ‘dirty dancing’ or ‘inappropriate dancing’ during an event. L&A SoundCrew will NOT be held responsible for curtailing this activity. That responsibility lies with the chaperones and/or the hosts of the event.
